Approximately 36% of all smartphone users across globe use Android. Already, it has seen a staggering 8 folds growth within the last few years. So, its authority is monumental for this time being and that doesn’t mean, it will never catch a glitch. ‘Android app not responding’ has been quite a search term over the last couple of years. So, where is the ‘Alt+Ctrl+Del’ functionality?

Beside the intuitive features, Android offers us a great debugging facility. You can forcefully stop any non responding application just like your Windows PC. You can even enter in ‘Safe Mode’ for dealing with the issue ‘Android app not responding’. Just take a look, walk with me through this article.

Forcefully stop any application that is not responding

If some application stop responding and you are certain which one it is then, head on to the ‘settings’ page. Now, navigate to the ‘Apps’ or ‘Application Manager’ option. Then, scroll down through the applications list; it is sorted in alphabetical order. You can even toggle list that are displaying the “Running” applications and “Downloaded” applications and “All” applications by scrolling right or left.

Now, after selecting the required application, open it and there you will see “Force Stop” option. Tap op the “Force Stop” button and exit from the settings menu. Now, re-open the app from the application list. If the glitches are fixed then it’s ok but, if not then follow the next section.

Clean the catches data of that application if force stop fails to restore it

If “Force Stop” can’t restore the glitches of the not responding application then, try to clean the catches data. Open the ‘application manager’ or ‘apps’ from the settings page and locate the app and open it. Now, scroll down to the data portion and tap on the “Clear Cache”.

Remember one thing there, don’t tap on the “clear data” button unless you have no other options in your hand. If you tap on the ‘clear data’ button, it will permanently delete every details of that application including updates, history and photos (if any).

Disabling System Apps

Sometimes some system apps consumes so much memory of RAM for running background processes, as a result we experience a lag on our devices. System applications can’t be removed from the system until you have root permission. But, fortunately it can be disabled. To disable any system application, navigate to the settings, then application manager or apps. Find your required application and open it, now click on the disable option.

Boot in safe mode to uninstall any malfunctioning application

Sometimes the above mentioned tricks don’t work. Some application or its updates causes so much trouble that you have to uninstall them from your system. But, if your system gets hang then how can you manage to move to settings and then ‘apps’ or ‘application manager’ to uninstall the malfunctioning application? However, there is a way for you and it is safe mode.

Just like any Windows PC, android devices support Safe Mode feature. Safe mode is a mode where any third party application does not run, so any new app which is malfunctioning can be fixed easily.

Method 1 (for most of the jelly bean phones)

Long press the power button of your device and then long press the power off menu. A dialog box will appear, asking for confirmation if you desired to reboot the system in safe mode (If the screen doesn’t appear then, follow the next method). Press the ok button to reboot the system in safe mode. When the booting completes, you will see a safe mode watermark on the bottom left corner.

Method 2 (for older version phones and some jelly bean phones)

At first turn off the phone and then turn on it. When the booting starts press and hold the volume up and down key together until the booting completes. At the end you will see a safe mode watermark on the bottom left side of the window. And you will see only the system applications lying on your application list.

After you successfully enter in ‘Safe Mode’, open the application list. You will see only the system applications there. Now, open the settings and then ‘application manager’ or ‘apps’ and switch to ‘all application’ list and the entire list of application will be in front of you. Now, uninstall your desired application from there.

Hopefully, this article will serve the purpose to deal with Android app not responding on your device. If you find some other options, don’t be shy to share it with us.
