If you are an internet user and you used to spend some of your daily time to browse through different websites, then I assume that at any point you stumble upon some square black and white meaningless images. Have you already guessed what I am talking about?
I am talking about QR-Codes, abbreviated from Quick Response code. These QR-codes have been around for a little while, but are used now over a wider range. I am going to discuss in this article how to install apps using QR code and share contacts with your friends.
QR-codes, two-dimensional bar-codes, which can store and digitally represent more data than a standard bar-code, a link to a video, text, contacts and even images. Nowadays, we all have a smart phone with a built-in camera under our palms. You can use your phone to interpret these codes using the Phone’s camera and installing bar-code scanner software. As I have searched with the text “barcode scanner” in android market, I got lots of results. I had chosen the first one, the Bar-code Scanner and installed it.
How to install apps using QR-code
When you open the Bar-code Scanner you will be prompted to place the QR-code given due to install your app in the middle of the viewfinder rectangle. Point your camera and shoot to do the same. When the scanning will be completed it will show you three options, to open a browser, to share via email, and to share via SMS. Choose the first one. You will be automatically redirected to the place from where you can install your app. In my case I have forwarded to the app page of android market and just press the install button.
Share Installed apps using QR-code
Your friend has a game installed on his phone and do you want it immediately, but you don’t want to search through the store? Your friend can share it. You heard me right. You can share your installed app using Bar-code Scanner. Just open it and click on the share button on the top right corner of the screen. You will be given four options, application, bookmark, contacts and clipboard. Choose application. Fun. Right?
A list of installed applications will appear in the next screen. Pick the app, you want to share. A QR-code for the application will be shown. Now, one can scan it using their cameras right from your screen have the app.
If you are going to share it, then you have multiple options, based on your phone. It can be sent as a downloadable image to your friend’s inbox.
Share Contacts or Bookmarks using QR-code
The process of sharing contacts or bookmarks is pretty much same as sharing your app using Bar-code Scanner. As shown on the screenshot above of sharing you need to choose the option whether you want to share your contacts or your bookmarks.
In the case of sharing contacts, all the information related to the contact will be converted to the QR code. When the QR-code get scanned, one can get multiple options depending upon the information of that contact. I addition to the most common and important option like, add contact, one can even dial it if it contains a valid number. Similarly, if it has an address then you will have map option and/or if it includes any email address then you can send email.
Personally, it is a new, quick and smart way of sharing your important information through devices. And I think it saves the time for searching through the android market. So, what are you waiting for, explore this whole modern path with installing just a bar-code scanner app.
